Energy Saving Ideas

Adjustable photocell: Adjustable photocell optimizes energy saving by holding lights off when ambient light conditions are adequate.

Occupancy Sensor: For multi luminaire control, up to two Occupancy Sensors can be fitted to a Lighting Distribution System box. The Occupancy Sensor, whilst providing a quick and efficient means of lighting control, will effectively save energy and reduce costs.

Just a a couple of our energy saving ideas – please speak to us about more options.

WEE Directive
What is WEEE?
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Directive) aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill.

Who do the WEEE regulations affect?
Any business that manufacture, brands or imports electrical or electronic products plus businesses selling electrical items. The legislation applied to household and non-household products.

Will it affect prices?
From 1 July 2007, all products purchased from Tarnwalk that fall into one of the above categories will be subject to a 15p surcharge per item to cover the cost of the disposal. This charge is subject to VAT. We are not responsible for disposal of lamps however if you would like us to dispose of lamps then we will be happy to supply a price for this service.

Can this situation be avoided?
These regulations are a legal requirement and unfortunately cannot be avoided.

Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECAs) enable a business to claim 100% first-year capital allowances on their spending on qualifying plant and machinery. There are three schemes for ECAs:
  • Energy-saving plant and machinery
  • Low carbon dioxide emission cars and natural gas and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure
  • Water conservation plant and machinery
Businesses can write off the whole of the capital cost of their investment in these technologies against their taxable profits of the period during which they make the investment.
  • This can deliver a helpful cash flow boost and a
    shortened payback period

Carbon Trust
The Carbon Trust was set up by Government in 2001 as an independent company. Our mission is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy by working with organisations to reduce carbon emissions and develop commercial low carbon technologies.

Low Carbon Buildings Programme
From 1st April 2008, organisations can apply for 50% of the cost for installing approved microgeneration technologies (1). Grants for the installation of microgeneration technologies are available to public sector buildings (including schools, hospitals, housing associations and local authorities) and charitable bodies. Applications are being accepted now. It is currently anticipated that funds will be committed through to mid-2009, but this will depend on the actual rate of applications. Once applications are approved, claimants will be given details of the latest date grants can be claimed. For more information
